CNEX CHINESE DOC FORUM (CCDF)

CNEX CHINESE DOC FORUM (CCDF)

Documentary is THE window.

Through this window, the world envision Chinese people, culture and society;
Through this window, Chinese engage the world.

CNEX Chinese Doc Forum (CCDF) is an unprecedented world-class Chinese documentary forum which will take place in Taipei, Taiwan in October 2010. It is a documentary promotion plan co-organized by the Chinese Image Visual Industry and Creation Society (CIVICS), Professor Jean May Tsiang Foundation and CNEX Foundation Limited with the support of the Government Information Office and Council for Cultural Affairs, Taiwan.

The Forum is designed as a platform for film-makers who pay attention to Chinese culture and society to meet the commissioning editors from internationally renowned broadcasters including the BBC (UK), Arte (France), NHK (Japan), Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Sundance (US), Shanghai Documentary Channel (China), Phoenix TV (Hong Kong), Sun TV (China), PTS (Taiwan) and CTi TV (Taiwan). The Forum provides a great opportunity for film-makers not only to work with international broadcasters but also to have their documentaries seen in the international media.

This is the very first time in Taiwan that such a grand scheme has been devised to promoting and engaging Chinese documentaries in the international market. The scheme is divided into three stages: 1. Call for entries from film-makers all over the world upon Chinese subjects; 2. World-class professional training course; 3. International pitching forum.

Stage 1 – Call for entries. This is open to film-makers around the world with documentary projects in development. Twenty production proposals will be selected for the pitching on stage.

Stage 2 – Master training workshop. The film-makers whose proposals are selected in the first round are REQUIRED to participate in a three-day master training workshop. The lectures will include Paterson Ferns (founder of documentary pitching forum), Steven Seidenberg (British documentary producer who has been giving lectures in documentary workshops in eleven countries) and Wang Ya-wei (consultant at the Taiwan Indigenous TV and former production manager at the PTS). The lecturers will discuss the projects with each film-maker before they enter the final stage.

Stage 3 – Pitching Forum. During the two-day forum, the film-makers get to pitch their projects to the potential ‘investors’, i.e. the commissioning editors and financiers, to back their projects.

The forum panelists will select three ‘Best Pitching Projects’, which will be automatically granted the option of being CNEX’s annual project with financing aids, and/or be granted the right to present in other international pitching forums via CNEX's support. As an encouragement and recognition, out of the three, the Best Pitch will be awarded a prize of $300,000 NTD (approx. $10,000 USD.)

We hope to receive projects with both artistic merit and market potential.

We hope to hear compelling stories and meet promising film-makers.

We believe that every film presents a unique adventure.

We believe that passionate film-makers can show us a new horizon of the world.
